HISTORY
BRSI evolved on March 20th, 1986, from the amalgamation of two separate organizations. Battlefords Residence Committee, which operated 2 adult group homes and an independent living program, amalgamated with Battlefords Developmental Centre and Residence Association, which operated a children’s group home. BRSI continues to operate the two original group homes: Prairie Villa, re-named Johanna’s Home in December 2008 in honour of a long term board member,Johanna Sitter and Tudor Manor, re-named Laurentian House in 1992 when a new building at a new location was constructed. The Battlefords Developmental Centre and Residence Association children’s group home became Meadow Manor in 1989 when a new building at new location was constructed. Meadow Manor was re-named in 2004 to Arlene Perkin Manor in honour of another long term board member. The original children’s group home was renovated and renamed Centennial Heights. Eight individuals from North Park Centre in Prince Albert made Centennial Heights their new home until 1993, when a new building Kildeer Manor was constructed, and Centennial Heights was sold to another community based organization, Interval House.
